Miss Michigan Alma Cooper is the New Miss USA 2024
The Miss USA organization crowned a new winner August 4, in Los Angeles. Alma Cooper of Michigan was chosen as the new Miss USA 2024. She will represent the United States at the upcoming Miss Universe pageant.
There were 51 state delegates at the Miss USA pageant this year. Despite controversy surrounding the resignation of Miss USA 2023, Noelia Voight, the competition was very strong and all of the state representatives participated in this year's pageant.
At the start of the show, contestants were introduced and the Top 20 Semifinalists for Miss USA were announced. I was happy to see so many of my Miss USA predictions in the Top 20 - 17 of 20!
Next the field was narrowed to the Top 10 Finalists. This is where some shocking cuts were made, and some of my picks were eliminated. But again, the competition was strong this year and the range of contestant types were very broad. It was difficult to gauge how the judging would play out. Highlights this year for me were appearances by show host Garcelle [who I modeled with in Miami when I first started] and seeing Lu Parker on the panel of judges. She was one of my idols when competing.
The Miss USA Final 5 were all from my original top picks, which was great to see. I was somewhat disappointed with the answers to the final question. It was a bit lackluster and I felt the finalists could have done a better job. They all had strong backgrounds and their answers fell a bit short for me. I thought Tennessee and Ohio gave the best answers. Oklahoma was also one of my favorites. They all looked beautiful and the gowns were amazing.
Here are the results from the Top 5:
Ohio - 4RU
Tennessee - 3RU
Oklahoma - 2RU
Kentucky - 1RU
Winner - Michigan!
Congratulations to Alma Cooper! The new Miss USA 2024
